Little Wheel - The best design for an online game I've seen all year.
My job requires that I spend a lot of time online - so when I stumbled across this little game, I was intrigued. It looked dark, eerie: creepy even. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Despite it’s similarities to Burtonesque characters, Little Wheel is an adorable RPG that draws you into it’s sepia-toned world with an interesting backstory and engaging (despite his lack of dialogue) main character. Created by One Click Dog, the story follows a robot brought back online 10,000 (!) years after the power is shut down by an accident. As the player behind the little guy, it’s your job to restore power to the city and bring the robot citizens back to life again.
The design of the game, as I said earlier, looks - at first - quite dark, but that’s where the Tim Burton references stop. It’s essentially a point-and-click game, with some puzzle solving thrown in; whilst not the most difficult game ever, it’s enough to give you a bit of a challenge at first, and short enough that all the trial and error won’t get annoying. I also really like the upbeat jazz soundtrack that goes along with it.
If you haven’t played this yet, what are you waiting for?! Good job all round!
